Facility & Landfills

There are two landfills in operation. One is designated as the Caliche Canyon Landfill (Permit #69) located at 8425 North Avenue P and encompasses 318.7 acres.  The second site is the West Texas Region Disposal Facility (WTRDF) (Permit #2252) and is located at 17304 North FM 2528 in Abernathy, Texas. The WTRDF encompasses 1260 acres and is expected to serve the region for the next 100 years. Both landfills are open to the public.

WTRDF and the Caliche Canyon Landfill are Type I landfills.  They are governed by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations and accept environmentally safe waste. Type I designates that the landfills cannot accept hazardous waste.  Caliche Canyon only accepts construction and demolition materials.

Currently both landfills are in operation.

Loads should have a tarp over them or tied to prevent load from spilling on roadway while in route to the landfill facilities.  The load must be secured enough to prevent materials from leaving the vehicle along the road.
