On the first Friday of August, the Buddy Holly Center invites the community to participate in Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail, an event held on the first Friday of every month in venues around the city, organized by The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts. Galleries, restaurants and businesses open FREE of charge to display local and regional visual and performing art. A free trolley service to and from venues will be offered.
The First Friday Art Trail works to promote art and outreach within the community of Lubbock by providing an opportunity to enjoy fine art and entertainment. On Friday, August 1, 2014 the Buddy Holly Center will be open from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. for patrons to view its exhibits. There will be FREE admission and refreshments. The new exhibition, Mavericks, Misfits & Musicians: The Art of Joe Garnett will be displayed in the Fine Arts Gallery. This summer exhibition will feature the diverse work of artist Joe Garnett. Garnett gained popularity designing well-known record album covers and movie posters and then began painting portraits of famous musicians such as Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson and Janis Joplin. Displayed in the Foyer Gallery will be David Leake: Impressions of Musicians. This exhibition will feature the work of local artist David Leake, who paints one-of-a-kind oils, including portraits of locally and nationally renowned musicians.
