In order to preserve the ‘single family’ nature of residential areas, garage sales are regulated by City ordinance. This regulation is intended to prevent property owners from starting commercial businesses operating from their homes.
In Ordinance 7084 Section 40.01.003(73) a garage sale is defined as “the sale of items normally accumulated by a household subject to compliance with each of the following conditions: No more than three (3) garage sales shall be allowed for the same location in any twelve-month period. The duration of the garage sale shall not exceed three (3) consecutive days.
- No items shall be purchased for a garage sale for the purpose of resale.
- No items for sale shall be displayed outside a residence, garage, or carport.
- One 3’x4’ sign is allowed on your property. Said sign shall pertain to the garage sale only and shall be located on the property. Said sign shall be permitted for a three-day period.”
Signs of any kind (including garage sale signs) are allowed neither in the area between the street and sidewalk, nor on utility poles. If signs are found in either location, they will be automatically removed and disposed of.
